Breast augmentation surgery is a surgical procedure that increases the size of a woman’s breasts with the aim of achieving an aesthetically pleasing size, shape and balance to the breasts. This is in the form of implants.

There is no doubt that if you feel that your breasts are too small, or are starting to sag, breast enlargement or enhancement can make you feel sexier and give you added confidence. However, it is important that you fully understand any surgical procedure and any risks involved.

Cosmetic surgery augmentation will not just enhance a small bust, it is also be suitable in the other circumstances. These include such circumstances where breasts that have decreased in size following a pregnancy; where one breast is bigger than the other; or as a reconstructive technique following breast surgery.

So, what exactly are breast implants? They are silicone shells which are filled with either silicone gel or saline (a salt-water solution) and which are inserted under your breasts to minimise any obvious signs of cosmetic surgery augmentation such as scarring. If your breasts are starting to sag or droop, a breast lift (the surgical name for which is a Mastopexy) may also help.

However, as with all surgical procedures, there is a risk involved and there can be post-operative problems. Typical problems experienced by women who have had surgical breast enlargement include capsular contracture (where the capsule around the implant tightens causing the breast to feel almost rock hard); loss of sensation in the nipples; and infection.

There is also a risk that the breast implants may leak or break due to the normal movement and pressure on the implant, which then causes the leak. This is harmless if you have saline-filled implants in your breasts, but f you have a gel-filled implant and there is a break or tear, the silicone gel may move into surrounding tissue. In both instances, this can then cause a change in the shape or feel of the breasts.

The majority of the typical surgical breast enhancement related problems can be treated. However, it may involve removing and replacing the implant with another or removing any resulting scar tissue.

As with any surgical procedure – not just enlargement or augmentation - there are many factors involved, including risks and that is why it is imperative that you fully research surgical breast enhancement.

That way you can fully understand the procedure and any risks or side effects then choose either go down the surgical or non surgical route (such as by taking herbal breast enhancement pills or using special creams) to enhance and/or enlarge your breasts.
